Wayne Webley BSc(hons), PhD - Director

Wayne has been involved in testing and monitoring work for over 30 years. He has a background in chemistry, chemical engineering and chemical analysis. A keen Toastmaster and karate student, he also finds time to explore some of Nelson's back country from time to time.

Rob Kay BTech(hons), PhD - Consumer Product Testing

Rob is our Consumer Products specialist. He also looks after Health and Safety testing and has previously worked in all the other aspects of Applied Research Services' functions. Rob has a Bachelor of Technology and completed his PhD with research in the Dairy Industry. He has extensive experience in staff and line management roles in timber processing. His personal interests include reading, kayaking and mountain biking. He also enjoys pottering in the workshop on projects such as the electric car he completed a couple of years ago.

George Looman BE(mech) - Heating and Cooling

George's focus is on the testing of heating and cooling appliances including heat pumps, solar hot water heaters and solid fuel heaters. He has worked as a secondary school teacher teaching mathematics at all levels. He owned and operated a cycle shop for eight years and has worked in diverse engineering roles and in 3D CAD design. His interests include kayaking and cycling and he has raced mountain, road and tandem cycles at various times

Chris McLennan - Gas Appliances

Chris has a diverse range of experience, from surveying to joinery. He has recently joined the team as the dedicated gas appliance testing program manager. His careful working practices and attention to detail allow him to assess gas appliances for safety and compliance.
